After we took on a construction company’s SEO, its website went from about 69 clicks a day from Google to about 113, an increase of 63%, and its daily search impressions almost doubled. Google Analytics showed users up 125% compared with the previous period. This case study shows the numbers, what we did, and what other construction firms can learn from it.
The Client
The client is a construction company that relies on its website to win project enquiries. Like many firms in the sector, it competed against established contractors and directory listings for a small set of high-value searches. Every extra visit from someone looking for a contractor is a potential project.
The Starting Point
Before the work began, Google Search Console showed the site receiving 8,390 clicks and 197,000 impressions between 5 December 2021 and 4 April 2022. That works out to about 69 clicks and 1,628 impressions a day, with a 4.3% click-through rate and an average position of 14.5.
What We Did
We delivered our full SEO service for the client. That covered:
- Technical SEO: crawling and indexing fixes, site speed and mobile usability
- On-page optimisation: titles, headings, service page content and internal links
- Keyword research: targeting the searches project owners and contractors actually use
- Content: pages and articles that answer buyers’ questions
- Local SEO and links: business listings and relevant backlinks
- Monthly reporting: tracking clicks, impressions and enquiries
The Results
Google Search Console: 12 months from April 2022
From 5 April 2022 to 4 April 2023, the site received 41,200 clicks and 1.13 million impressions from Google.
The two Search Console periods are different lengths (365 days against 121 days), so the fair comparison is the daily average:
- Clicks: about 69 a day → about 113 a day (+63%)
- Impressions: about 1,628 a day → about 3,096 a day (+90%)
- Click-through rate: 4.3% → 3.7%
- Average position: 14.5 → 16.9

The average position and click-through rate dipped slightly because the site began appearing for far more search terms, including many new ones on page two and beyond. That is normal when a site’s visibility grows quickly. What matters is that total clicks, the visits that turn into enquiries, rose sharply.
Google Analytics: users and sessions
Google Analytics showed 21,595 users, up 11,989 (+125%), and 23,700 sessions (+120%) compared with the previous period.

What Construction Firms Can Take From This
- Service pages win the enquiries. Clear pages for each service you offer give Google something specific to rank for each search.
- Visibility grows before rankings settle. Expect impressions to rise first, then clicks as pages climb.
- Measure clicks, not just rankings. Average position can fall while traffic rises, because the site is showing up for more searches.
- It takes months, not weeks. These results built up over a full year of consistent work.
